Matthew A. Henson was born in Charles County, Maryland on August 8th,
1866. He is believed to be the first man to "discover" the North Pole.
On April 6, 1909, Henson arrived at Camp Jesup, 89°47', 45 minutes ahead
of his boss Peary, Henson greeted Peary, "I think I'm the first man to
